Loving my new workplace

2 months into my job already. it seems like a brand new environment. work is challenging due to its industry but I've been learning and growing in my B2B capacity as a marketing person. Never did I realise that I fell back to the MarCom role again. Guess that I will never run away from this. Good stepping stone for me to grow and learn.

Hope to be able to stay teacheable as always.

I know that God's eyes are always on me.

Something's brewing...

yes.. and it is kinda exciting!

Never expected God to work in such marvelous ways despite the difficult times that I am going through now.

Thank God for His providence.. and I am going to take faith and take heart to believe.

Yesterday's sermon simply assured me again about His faithfulness and that He always watches over me in my job.

So God, what other miracles are you gonna perform now leh?

*smiles*

Blessed With Great Colleagues!

Yes, I'm just so blessed! I truly give thanks to God for blessing me with a great bunch of colleagues at work. These people are all fun and nice, most importantly, they are pretty transparent.. no ulterior motives or agenda in mind. It is really comfortable to work with colleagues like that cos you don't have to be on guard at all times. Though there are a lot of times frustrations at work, but I really think that if I am in need of a listening ear, there will always be one ready to hear me out, especially my boss.

Moreover, everyday is a day to be looked forward to cos everyone is always smiling, greeting you with a good morning when they see you. Well, I guess that a lot of times, the culture of the top management set will be passed down to the employees. I know that no management is perfect, but I should say that this is one of the better ones that I have worked at so far. Great culture, great people!

Come to think of it, I am starting to enjoy more and more the badminton sessions, BBQ (which we are going to have tonight), dinners etc altogether. It is just so good to be working with not just colleagues but it is like a BIG BIG family.

Though economy is going downhill, I know that we will all be able to pull through cos we believe in a God that saves us from all trials and testings. Unity and faith can bring us further than we know. Keep the faith and trust in God - TOGETHER!

Colleagues at TRG

Colleagues at TRG

Just came back from lunch with my colleagues... I was lamenting that I didn't have enough rest because yesterday had too much red wine at the dinner last night. But still, I enjoyed my time with them cos I just couldn't imagine that my colleagues are such nice bunch of pple... there is healthy kind of suaning and it is still the same, I always kena laughed at by colleagues. Don't know why my life is always full of "laughs". Maybe next year's "laugh it off" workshop, I should conduct it. :p hahaha...

So presenting to you moi colleagues from TRG:

I think working brings me more satisfaction and belonging because the colleagues here are pretty much genuine towards one another. Not that colleagues at FP are not, it is just that there are lesser politics at work and in that way I can work with a much more saint mind.

The funniest part is that they kept laughing at me in whatever I say and kept asking if I've had my medication or did I forget to take my dose. Well, that's for me to know and for you to find out. I think it is good to have fun colleagues who enjoy your presence. :)

My New Colleague!!

ta-dar!! This is my colleague, MeiFung. hee.. She is the 2nd main character (of cos, my boss is the first one) that helped me to settle down in my job.
We both stay at yishun and she sits just next to me. Though she look young (and I look old.. haha), but she is actually my senior la.. so sad.. i feel so "chao lao"... hee...

I realised that the younger IT colleagues are easier to get along with.. some older ones also.. but not all though.

Good to say this, "I'm enjoying my work here!!"

Updates abt my new job!

Ok. I've been sharing with many friends about my new job, and now, I should write it down as a tribute to God. :)

I've started my new job last month, on the 13th. It was just a short 3 days break from my previous and I barely had any rest. My first day to work was a long long journey. I left home at 7.15am, only to reach office at about 8.40am. haha.. yesh, u r right... from Yishun to West Coast is a good 1 hour 30 minutes everyday.

However, the distance did not deter me from continuing on in this job. Distance is a side factor. The main factors were all blessed by God greatly. I have a great boss, who actually visited Hope before. She is a Christian and she loves God very dearly. However, she is now attending any church with another friend. Hope that she will continue to grow in the Lord. :)

Great colleagues is another factor. Not that my previous colleagues are worse, but this bunch of colleagues are really very guai. So far, I have not really seen anyone taking smoking breaks here. Haha... the most is tea breaks lor... :p

Environment is quiet and peaceful. I am sitting right outside my CEO's room. Haha, how coincidental isn't it... But then, sitting outside his room can be quite stressful at times. haha.. cos u dunnoe when is he going to ask u in for kopi...

Industry... hmm, quite a dry industry... but then it can be interesting at times. It is a company doing IT Business Solutions for manufacturing and semiconductor industry. Very niche and super technical. I am still trying to understand the business..somehow got a bit here and there. Still must 'study' more into it.

guess that this job is really a God-given one. My third day into the job, my boss told me that she wants to groom me to be a manager in the near future. She finds that I have potential. haa... I was like, jaws drop... and it was during lunchtime when she said that. We work very well together as the whole team only comprises of just the 2 of us. But then, we have many common principles and ground rules.. and that make things easier to work abt. And the best thing is, she told me that she only interviewed me, the only candidate, she went home, pray abt it and God confirmed it. Isn't it a God-given blessing?

And I know that God is going to great things here. Not because it is a new job, but it is going to be a brand new experience for me. :)

Random Thots

Looking through my previous company’s website and saw a video that they did up for PSA (Project Super Achievers). My gosh!! I saw myself in the video lor… ~faintz~ That was when I was only 1 month old with the company… and there I was, facilitating the students in the games… haha… I really quite miss the time that I was coaching the students. It was a mountain-full of experiences, a very steep learning curve indeed.

As I looked back to my coaching job, my FP job and my current job, I can’t help but to give thanks to God for the process. The coaching job gave me a very fulfilling time, a time that not only I have learnt to coach others, I was also being coached as well. I looked back in my life and I saw many times of insecurity and reflection of my childhood days. The background of my family, how I have been brought up etc, gave me a true rewind of what life was meant to be in me. However, if not for God, I don’t think I am able to overcome all my negative self-portrayals a step at a time. I have learnt to forgive my family and love my parents. If not for Jesus, I think I would still be suffering in silence, and might even have committed suicides some years back. Some people asked me, “Why are you always so happy? Jovial? Worry-free?” I can only say that I am such a jovial person because I have found Christ. Perhaps I am noisy to a certain extent and people can’t tolerate that kind of noise level, but still, I can only say that my “noise” came from my real self, not my made-up being. I enjoy being myself. However, if you really find that I am too noisy, just let me know bah… btw, I have toned down quite a fair bit, I wonder if you have realized it. It is kinda unfair to me, just to say that I am noisy when you have not even know me to a deeper level.

Anyway, back to my coaching job… to my amazement, within a short 8 months of training with the students last year, I have managed to conquer 9,000 over students. How amazing, isn’t it?

Romance is in the air!!

haha... yesh! I shall blog here since not many visits my blog here... (hopefully...) Just got to know that a few frens got attached recently... and many are my kakis in some way or another... I'm just so happy for them!! Guess that from now on I got to save up more for people's weddings... which will most likely be within the next 2 years or so?? haha..

Anyway I've been thinking through about my commitment to my job etc.. I've been falling sick since i started this job at the beginning of the year. I know that there is a reason and purpose for God to put me there. However, the pay I'm getting hasn' been too good. And the amount of work is quite scary... I love the students etc.. but I noe I cannot commit due to the family's financial background too... haiz..

Must pray for me... I need breakthrough in many things... esp in my career n family so that i can grow n serve the church even more too. :)

The Song Dedication

It was the best farewell gift that I ever had! My colleague Andrew gave me a very priceless farewell gift on Sunday when he was on air in the evening. Bibi and AA planned this on Saturday and before that AA has already pre-warned me that he will be doing that on Sunday. Thought that he was kidding only but it became reality.

It was about 5pm and I was at my shepherd's mum's funeral wake. I was trying hard to listen to the radio and as the time drew nearer for the dedication, I saw Pastor Jeff and Claudia coming... haha... Then Claudia sat beside me and I actually told her that my colleagues are dedicating a song for me. Thus, there goes the dedication and Claudia tuned in together with me.

The song was "Fen Xiang" and it was the song that I performed for the kids at Haven Children's Home. AA wished me the best after the song and said that they were all sad to see my departure from the company. But still, they wished me best and hope to keep in touch with me too... I can't cry at that point... But I was really moved by them.

Moi boss was telling me that my ex-GM, now known as director wanted to buy the dept lunch for my farewell... so I was told to choose a good place for lunch! haha...

I hope that I will control my emotions on Fri. Must control control...

Memories in the office

Since the day Pamela, Andrew and Huimin stepped into FP, things have been really different for me. I have seen a great change in the culture of Corp Comms Dept. Things really changed. In fact, everything seems to have changed for the better, especially towards me.

You can't believe what I did last evening in the office. I started digging out all the old photos that we took since last year August. I started to ask everyone to look at Huimin's photo which she was still slimmer? haha... working in FP can prove that FP is a feeding company... eat and eat and eat... soon, Pamela, Huimin and Andrew all flood to my desk to look at the pics. we laughed abt the stupid and silly mistakes we have made.... especially me... always bringing the people to wrong the place... first to Bayshore Park, then to Da Chang Jin... alamak... me n my stupid direction sense... proven to be true.

We laughed n laughed n laughed... till the point that tears came into my eyes. Not because it was really super funny, but cos of the fact that I am leaving them really soon. Andrew see the pics and halfway he really cannot tahan. He told me just now that he almost cried last night. I think I almost did too. Well, of cos I didn't. I need to control mah... haha...

I think the many memories flooded into our minds.. and we were all reminded of the beautiful memories and many fun times we had together.

When I met up with Andrew and Pamela just now, Andrew told me about how he felt and that he had never felt so bad before about a colleague leaving the company. He asked if I will cry if I dedicate a song to me on Sat afternoon... but I think Huimin will surely cry if she hears that. But I'm thankful that she is in Hong Kong now... so that she don't have to think about my departure. But Andrew's words struck deep in my heart. He apologised for not giving me enough attention for the past few months... due to his busy datelines etc. Well, it is never anyone's fault. I just felt that I can't move on in this line. Although at times, I really don't know why I get so upset for. But I know that deep in my heart, I want to have more of everyone's attention in the office.

I am childish in this sense but I am also frank of my need for people's concern for me. Well, I just have to grow out of all these so that I will be even more independent than before. What Pamela told me last time is true... I need to learn from Huiming in some areas... being more decisive and not emotional. Aiya... whatever it is, it is a team of members that help to cover one another. Even though we have had loads of conflicts and frustrations, when things doesn't move our way, we always learn to let go and move on. It might seems tough for me at some point, but as I reflect, I gain great lessons from it.

I'll post some pics up later on... time for some reflection... :p

I'm going off...

Yes.. I will be leaving my current job soon. In fact, I have not even tendered yet but I've already gotten a confirmation from the new employer. It is going to be very exciting.

2 years and 9 months... in the current workplace... is not any easy deal at all. Seen the whole team changed, from then till now, it has been many transitions that I went through.

I'm having difficulty parting with my colleagues. I think I will cry. My eyes will surely be red and teary...

Many beautiful memories and also many stupid mistakes made... I will definitely choose to remember them all.

Goodbye FP...

Happy Feet

Happy Feet has shown me what it meant by not everyone is good in everything. The whole fleet of penguins are supposed to find their heart song since they are tots but somehow, Mumble, is not able to find his. Well, instead of being able to sing really well, he was gifted with the feet that can dance and the ability to rhythm well.

I put myself in his shoes... I thought to myself, "Will I discriminate those who cannot sing as well as me?" or " Will I fade away slwoly if I am not able to perform as well as the rest?"

My goodness.. such a cute little animation movie can actually inspire me so much. I can't deny the fact that sometimes I really feel like fading away in my workplace. I felt that I couldn't have as much attention as I want from my colleagues. Well, I can say that insecurity sipped in most of the times at work and I really hope to improve from here. Somehow, being a TL is just as limited. I just cannot do what I want to.

Does certification really matter? Can a TL not do a TL's job?

I don't want to remain as it is. Mundane work will only remain mundane. Will there ever be new challenges? Must I always be sitting at the registration counter or do I have to always be receiving instructions? Can't I have a mind of my own?

haha.. I think I just have to be like Mumble. I want to find my forte. My heart's song. My abilities and giftings. I'm not as untalented right? haha...

Ok, maybe I should just pick up my guitar and sing all night long...."Don't worry... be happy..."

UTP Finally Over!

The Used Textbook Project is finally over! I'm just so glad that it has ended and no more books in sight... haha... But my goodness, the student volunteers this year are really mischievious... haha... this little girl named Dorathy started calling me nickname... Babara... This is the funniest nickname that is given to me. Babara... a character in a witch show (Channel 8) that Chen Liping acted as. Alamak.. do i look like a witch or do I look like Chen Liping??

Anyway, this year seems tougher than last year. Had a few unreasonable adults coming to us with unreasonable requests. I shan't mention the cases. But I am just so curious why some people can afford to take cab to the place but has no money to buy textbooks for their kids. I really wonder...

Anyway I can't deny the fact that I am starting to miss some of the kids... some of them are really very dear to my heart leh... shan't mention names in case I start a war of jealousy? haha...

The above four girls (from left) are Jiahui, Celine, Junwen and Dorathy... Very helpful girls...

And finally, the group pic...

I am looking forward to see them for the post-celebration... hee... HCI and DHS rocks!
